The Diamonds spent the day at Leicester City's King Power stadium for a unique tournament taking place on the stadium's hallowed turf.
The day began with them entering the ground through the players' entrance and walking out of the tunnel with the post horn gallop music being drowned out by a huge crowd.
The girls who had previously played just 4 games and 1 tournament were always going to be in for a very tough day on the pitch being in the same group as some very strong boys teams. This proved very true in the group stage where the girls were just overpowered, however, the Diamond's spirit was unbreakable going into each of the matches without any fear or hangover from the results, and all 10 girls gave their all in each game.
Finishing bottom of their group they were paired in the 7 place playoff against the only other girls' team in the tournament - Hinckley Borough!!
Before the game, the Diamonds were allowed into the changing room as part of the tour where they were left alone for 10 minutes to have a team talk to prepare them for the "Battle of the Borough". The Diamonds went into this game determined to give a good account of themselves, the small pitch helping deny any space to their opposition and the work rate of the diamonds restricting the quality players from having time to settle on the ball. Diamonds came excruciatingly close to going in front when a looping effort thudded off the crossbar and the resulting scramble was cleared. As The Diamonds tired some exceptional goalkeeping, some last-gasp defending, and the crossbar saw the game go to penalties after a very creditable 0-0 draw. Although the penalty shootout didn't go their way it was an incredible performance and result to finish a great day on.
Overall a fantastic day with some cherished memories made, while strengthening their team spirit and to top it off with such a positive performance was the cherry on the cake. Finally a huge thanks to Matt who made the day possible for the girls.
