GNG Girls 1 v GTFC Hinckley Guardians 1

The Guardians have been extremely unfortunate with some of their results this season and today was about battling for each other and getting a break here and there, something they haven't had all season.

A change of midfield formation with Evie playing out left and Libby P inside, Holly and Erin in the middle and Sydney on the right certainly confused the opposition and made if difficult for them. Some lovely early play saw good chances created down the left and Evie worrying the GNG back line. Holly was pushing on with Erin holding and some nice linking up resulted in a fine finish from Holly who found herself in space in the box to coolly slot the ball home 0-1 to the Guardians.
GNG had some pacey forwards and wingers and the Guardians in Ray, Mollie and Maisie at the back needed to be on their toes, as on a number of occasions they were getting in behind. Olivia did very well in goal to prevent too much esculating with getting off her line early. It was a shame to conceed a soft goal, which ultimately trickled over the line when the girls were unable to clear, turning into danger in their own penalty area 1-1.
Comfortable to a degree for the rest of the half, although the threat was coming from their wingers, getting in behind our defence.
Second half Evie was brought inside, with Holly and Libby P, to get possession of the ball, and Erin dropped to right back to help Ray and Mollie. The girls sat back and we struggled to read breaks out wide then the opportunities were there for Libby H, Maisie and later in the half Sydney and Libby P. The girls worked hard to defend their goal, with changes coming and scrabbling around the box! Mis-kicks and turning backs on the ball did not help, but we held out, credit to the girls!
Building blocks, hopefully the girls can now move on from this, enjoy there couple of weeks break from league matches and get fresh and read for 3 games in December! Well done all
