Comfortable Victory for GTFC

GTFC took on old adversaries GNG Pumas on Sunday, looking to bounce back from the previous week's loss to Riverside. The match was moved to an early 10:00 start and had to be played on a 9v9 pitch, with four games scheduled at the same time at JCC, but only three 11v11 pitches available. This meant smaller goals also, so we were not expecting a high scoring game.

With the U12's game cancelled and Freddie away, dual registered Owen came in at Centre Back, whilst Dhru started in Right Midfield with Harrison dropping to the bench. Pumas usual keeper and captain Rohan had a hand injury, so he played on pitch.

The game started with GTFC kicking up hill and the lack of space on the pitch made free flowing football difficult. GNG forced some corners but these were dealt with well, and Ted didn't have a great deal to do. GTFC started to create more pressure with Keerthan's energy pushing them forward and on 10 minutes he opened the scoring, with a nice first time finish from Leighton's corner from the left hand side.

The same player made it 2-0 on 18 minutes when tucking home a cross from Lewis, and minutes later a burst into the box saw him shoot just wide whilst in search of a hat trick. GNG then went close with a shot across Ted's goal, before Fin made it 3-0 on 34 minutes, this time scoring from a corner taken by Lewis from the left hand side. Corners caused problems for GNG throughout game, particularly from the left hand side.

Half time, 3-0 to GTFC.

Now kicking downhill, GTFC started the second half immediately on the attack and Fin bundled in a fourth goal in the 37th minute which effectively finished the game off as a contest. The stand in GNG keeper then tipped a shot from Lewis over the bar, who eventually got reward for a very good display when slotting home a penalty with 16 minutes remaining.

GNG were themselves rewarded for a battling display a minute later when Cyan's cross from the right was turned into his own net by Owen, before Lewis scored his second goal, slotting into the far corner from the left hand side. With seven minutes remaining, Leighton's corner was partially cleared but only to Jack, whose shot was deflected past the keeper for a 7th; Jack's first goal for the Club and the first time that this team had scored seven goals in a match. A great effort.

No further goals were scored, but GTFC will be very pleased with the 7-1 scoreline. All thirteen players provided solid performances and this should give the team confidence going into a tough match against GNG Tigers next Sunday.
